Santiago Canyon Fire
Tonight started with the scent of burning wood in the air and within 15 minute the sky turned dark and ash began to fall. Gabe went out to take some pics of the sky, while I tuned into the news to see if there was anything being reported. Nothing of substance as all the news was centered on the Malibu and Canyon Country fires. I convinced Gabe to call his friend from station 26 in Irvine. After he got no answer he turned on the scanner to get any info we could. Sure enough, we began hearing about the fire off the toll road and north Irvine. After a couple phone calls to friends we decided to head out to a friends house in an area of town that was threatened. We took the truck incase an evacuation was announced.
Sky above the house.
Heading into North Irvine (avalanche from cherry pimps was near here with his garden hose)
Off Jamboree rd. looking up at the toll road.
Embers land & spread quickly.
Fire Fighters from Laguna Beach are called in to help. We were here before them, I started to freak out and wanted to leave but gabe said we were safe.
Me in the truck wanting to leave.
We are finally asked to leave the area. (thank god)
Santiago Canyon Fire threatens radio tower and repeater.
Its amazing to see how the wind pushes the fire and how quickly it spreads. You could feel the heat through the windows.
This fire was only 3 miles away from Cory's apartment.
