Ideally you pick a job, even a part time job that has a pay rate that is typically higher than what a hard working illegal can make in the field. Hell even the illegals know that they can go commission and get per bushel or ton and then send out the family.

Well for most it isn't a poor choice. Good waiters still can make decent money, even if the hourly is $2.13. While I made tables for instance, I was making anywhere from $500-$800 a week. That is between $15 and $20 an hour. It does suck however when you never even get a paycheck at all, because it all goes to taxes. It isn't uncommon where the pay is low for a server to go in, and not even have a paycheck. To make up for that, some server take a shift or 2 a week as a host, so that they don't end up owing the tax man money. While I don't think most servers should have a base pay of $8-10 an hour, I do think that minimum wage is only fair.
