Long ago, in mainstream media, I would assume that everyone who conducted business did so with the same sense of ethics and responisbility that I do.

I believed you could take most people at their word.

20 years later, that illusion has been thoroughly destroyed. Much of the world would take the food from my kids mouth if it benefited them in some fashion.

Most of the people I know are sharks and liars dressed as doctors, attorneys and teachers. In almost everyone I have met, from all walks of life, I have been later disappointed by their hypocrisy and their intent on "getting theirs" regardless of whom they have to plow under in the process.

I still give people the benefit of the doubt, or try to, but I must say I always have a tiny space inside that is never surprised when they ultimately try to take the lunch money from my hand, which they shook moments before.

Occasionally I find a diamond in the mess, and I make sure to cultivate good business (and personal when appropriate) relationships with them.

You might call me pessimistic, cynical or bitter.

I believe the truth is that I have awoken to what the world is really like. It remains a jungle in suits and dresses that will tear you limb from limb, discard the pieces, and make off with your watch.

That does not apply to everyone of course, but I believe it applies to most.
