Dunno if you remember - there was a company in the UK (Robertsons jams) who used a Golliwogg doll as a "mascot"? (It's a kinda black faced minstrel doll which was a character in childrens books 100 years or so ago)
This also created a fuss when it was claimed to be associated with racial issues and Robertson's stopped using the logo/symbol - how touchy we are

Well, that is a case of time moving on and catching up with the company. That figure is often associated with racism..much like I can't believe that black and white minstrels were EVER allowed on tv here. Seriously, black face is SO a no-no where I come from. So, ignorance could only be claimed for so long before the company could no longer say they didn't know what the symbol meant to a larger population. On the up side for the people that have things with those old logos they are now collectors items worth dosh.
