There is the North America Continent and there is the South American Continent...but there is not an America Continent...and the two continents are referred to as the Americas and the United States is the only country on the earth that is reffered to as America and its citizens are the only peoples to be reffered to as Americans...which in my books makes America a country...not a continent.
