You people need to open your eyes...
The U.S. House of Representatives on Wednesday overwhelmingly approved a bill saying that anyone offering an open Wi-Fi connection to the public must report illegal images including "obscene" cartoons and drawings--or face fines of up to $300,000.
The Securing Adolescents From Exploitation-Online Act, or SAFE Act--will "ensure better reporting, investigation, and prosecution of those who use the Internet to distribute images of illegal child pornography."
Only 1 or two people opposed this bill - guess who it was? Yeah, Ron Paul.
Ron Paul has old school (constitutional) ideas like abolishing the Fed (The country was fine without a Fed from 1776 - 1913) and going back to the gold standard, but, he realizes many of these things could not be achieved without the full approval of the Congress and the American people. Any big changes would be done over a long period of time like introducing a parallel, sound currency based on something like gold.
Lets not forget that everyones hero Mr. Alan Greenspan, in 1966 wrote his most important paper, "Gold and Economic Freedom" where he strictly defends the importance of a gold standard and outlines the dangers of a paper system. Or maybe we should reflect back on the Great Depression, which the Federal Reserve was designed to prevent ... and did next to NOTHING?
Still think I'm full of shit? Maybe the words of these great men might change your mind ?
In the absence of the gold standard, there is no way to protect savings from confiscation through inflation. There is no safe store of value.
- Alan Greenspan
I sincerely believe... that banking establishments are more dangerous than standing armies, and that the principle of spending money to be paid by posterity under the name of funding is but swindling futurity on a large scale. --Thomas Jefferson to John Taylor, 1816
The trifling economy of paper, as a cheaper medium, or its convenience for transmission, weighs nothing in opposition to the advantages of the precious metals... it is liable to be abused, has been, is, and forever will be abused, in every country in which it is permitted.
--Thomas Jefferson
If Congress has the right under the Constitution to issue paper money, it was given to them to be used by themselves, not to be delegated to individuals or corporations.
- President Andrew Jackson
All the perplexities, confusion and distress in America arise, not from defects in their Constitution or Confederation, not from want of honor or virtue, so much as from the downright ignorance of the nature of coin, credit and circulation.
- John Adams
Now, I will say the gold standard is not a perfect system either. But this irresponsible, runaway spending under the fiat system that has been going on is a far greater threat. Ron Paul and his views are not perfect either, but obviously some drastic changes need to be made in Washington.
