I can't believe you're blaming some countries poverty on trade barriers... on top of that, I can't believe you get so pissed at people for giving THEIR time and money to a charity that they feel is important. I think some of the scholarship programs regarding to "race" are absolutely ridiculous, but I'm not going to hound someone for donating THEIR money.
At least some people are still willing to give. Whether you believe it or not, the donations to "stupid charities and organizations" keep them running and benefit everyone in the long run.

Trade barriers are indeed set up for a reason. Keeping the rich rich, and the poor poor. Not every country has them, but the rich countries do, the countries that can afford to buy goods.
With these barriers in place, it is simply impossible for most of the poor countries to develop a stable economy.
That is one side of the coin. The other side is that we do squeeze as much profit as possible out of these countries. For instance, we get crude resources for absurdly low prices, or labor for even lower prices. They have no choice but to go along, because not doing so will increase poverty even further.
Now, if these countries set up trade barriers themselves to keep their economy from losing liquids, economic sanctions follow. Thus, they are forced to "participate" in the free market, while they are forbidden to profit from it themselves.
Now, the thing that annoyed me most is not that RottenPug asked for donations for the humane society. It is the part where he said:

Lets be honest most of us donate when webmasters have problems or can't make it to a trade show, this to me is a far better cause.

Think about that for a moment. He basically says that donating to webmasters isn't a very good cause, so we should give to another cause. Now, what I said is: If you want to give to a "better" cause, why not something that can be considered a far larger problem than stray cats and such?
