Good point, I think that at Christmas especially when you have a family with small kids and they don't have much if anything to spare for presents or the kind of food that the rest of us take for granted, and the dad or mom is away in Iraq or wherever... that's when it becomes more of an issue at this time of year.
Some years I've donated to the outfit that delivers Christmas hampers to needy families (including military families). Several hospital wards I worked on through the 80's and 90's put together hampers for that as well.
This year however I donated cash to the Siloam mission to help the homeless.
Nothing wrong with this cause though, even if only a few do something because of it it's worth it.
