I disagree. I think it's creating a market, which will in turn create competition that will bring further efficiency. Electric cars are already becoming rather efficient and realistic though. If you look at Tesla Motors for instance I think you will see the future, and big car companies will take their lead and further the market as it becomes more realistic. Laptop batteries (the kind used by Tesla) are already improving at a storage rate of 10% per year, so even without any major breakthroughs in 10 years time we could well have $20k family cars that can travel 400 miles on a single charge.

I don't really disagree that they are overpopulated, and overpopulating this planet, but I don't know that allowing 3/4 of their population to be wiped out is really a solution, much as it may free up the worlds resources.
