'Idol' finalist axed for porn site pics
LOS ANGELES, California (Reuters) -- A finalist on the hit Fox TV reality show "American Idol" has been kicked off the program following the discovery that she posed topless on a porn Web site that purports to feature underage girls.
Frenchie Davis, a 23-year-old singer whose powerhouse vocals dazzled the judges and made her a strong contender for the title, was dismissed from the popular show on Tuesday, a spokesman for Fox said.
"Frenchie Davis has been disqualified," Fox spokesman Scott Grogin said. "Issues arose from her background check that the producers and the network felt forced them to disqualify her."
A source close to the show said Davis had appeared on the Internet porn site, prompting her dismissal.
Davis, from Washington, D.C., will be replaced on the February 25 episode of "American Idol" by an alternate.
Davis, who could not immediately be reached for comment, becomes the latest reality show contestant whose newfound fame has been overshadowed by revelations about her past.
In January, Sarah Kozer, a finalist on the Fox reality show "Joe Millionaire," conceded that she had starred in dozens of soft core bondage and fetish films while she was attending law school. The show's faux millionaire, Evan Marriott, first billed as a construction worker, also acknowledged that he had modeled underwear.
Both programs have been ratings winners for Fox, which is owned by News Corp. Ltd.
