Fletch, isn't that just vitamin B, not B12? There's plenty of sources of B vitamins, but not specifically B12.
Okay I have been reading about Vitamin B all morning basically... what I have found is this. No animal can "create" it - nor plants. B12 cannot be made by plants or by animals. It originates in the intestines of animals, it is a bacteria. HUman feces has vitamin B in it. Vitamin B does not come "from meat" it is preent in the intestines of animals when killed. People who say the only source for Vitamin B is eating animal flesh are wrong.

B12 cannot be made by plants or by animals. It is thought that only bacteria (eubacteria, archaebacteria) manufacture the vitamin. The B12 in animal products is derived from bacterial B12 sources.

In nature, B12 is solely produced by bacteria found in animals (including humans), so that dirt could actually be considered a natural source of B12. Vitamin B12 is made by bacteria and fungi, but not by yeasts or higher plants. Friendly bacteria reside in large quantities in the gastrointestinal tract of animals and humans. The richest dietary sources of vitamin B12 are liver, especially lamb's liver, and kidneys.

Human faeces can contain significant B12. A study has shown that a group of Iranian vegans obtained adequate B12 from unwashed vegetables which had been fertilised with human manure. Faecal contamination of vegetables and other plant foods can make a significant contribution to dietary needs, particularly in areas where hygiene standards may be low. This may be responsible for the lack of aneamia due to B12 deficiency in vegan communities in developing countries.

So,... onto daily values.

The DV you should take in of Vitamin B12 is 6mcg - I have read everything from 2.5mcg to 6.0 mcg

Doctors recommend vegetarians take Vitamin B supplements, and drink plant based fortified milk with b12, b6 etc... which i do.

So to the vitamin b12 debate i say...

... vitamin B12 - pfft

thats a pic of the back of my bottle of "high potency vitamin B complex pills"
