Did you mean irony or idiocy? I'm not seeing much irony in the story.
Been in similar situations before, and you're right it is often the bitch girl (or the smallest punkiest guy with the biggest mouth) that causes the situation to flare up. I hope that in all the turmoil someone had the wherewithal to administer a decent bitchslap her way. :D
Lastly, it takes a real pussy to attack in numbers. Two or three idiots beating on one guy, real tough.
