This is the furthest thing from the truth. Dude, if you could see the belt tightening over the most mundane things you would be surprised. Even projects with proven stars attached are seeing 25% of what they would have just a year ago. The times are a changing.
Net money is shit right now for the labels as well since the brightest stars for future revenue such as Pressplay are having way less success than anyone had anticipated. This is really messing up the optimisim when it comes to funding new music/net companies.
On the flip side, let me say this is something that was supposed to happen. We've had a great time in the music biz for a long time. Limos, fine hotels the best restaurants and plenty of hookers and blow for all was the norm... until last year. That was all on the artist's dime. No one really cared about profits as much as living well and expense accounts. It's like we all made the money to enjoy it... which is a cool premise for an enjoyable business when you think about it but that had to end. It's not totally over but now we are having figure out how to do it all cost effectively.
