I disagree. That's called "loyalty" ... it may be a positive trait of a real friend, but not what defines a real friend. A REAL friend WILL call you out on your actions regardless of the consequences. A real friend is someone who wants to see your growth over their self serving interests.
Someone who is NOT a real friend is usually just hanging around to see what value they can extract from you or the relationship. A sure fire way to spot them is the way they try to make nice of every situation as to not upset or jeopardize the relationship.
