Funny how the PC guys have to install 3rd party programs to get their stuff working.
But here is the point : I've edited on PCs for nearly 10 years now. I was a die hard PC user. Then I tried a MAC and realised : Oh shit, I've been complicating my life for nothing.
Still love my PCs, but when it comes to getting a job done quickly and with high quality output, I go with a MAC. Plain and simple.
If you haven't tried BOTH systems extensively, then dont even bother trying to debate the issue cause you haven't seen what the other system has to offer.
As for AVID, yes its still the backbone of mainstream hollywood, but there is a very obvious reason for it :
Editors are in a Guild... they control the game and keep the work to themselves. Most of them have been at it for 20+ years. They've learned how to edit on AVIDS and simply haven't bothered to learn another system.
Since they are seniors in the game, they decide what post-production studios equip themselves with (avids in this case), cause thats what they know. So the younger crowds have to learn to use it too if they want to stay in the game.
Once the older guys retire, the new generation of Editors will most likely switch over to a more user friendly editing system.
Why you ask? Cause who in their right minds wants to have to click 5 times just too add a bloody fade to a clip?!? hehe
