I used to own a '91 Aerostar as a spare utility vehicle that had an inner release switch for the little door to the gas cap. Thing is, a crook can still use their little door lever tool to break into your car and then flip the switch.
Best defense overall I think is to have a good car alarm along with an electronic immobilizer (a 3-point one, not a factory 2-point one), and a locking gas cap.
And a steering wheel club.
And a garage. (locked)
And a large attack dog. (or a bitchy mother-in-law living above said garage)
That ought to keep the little bastards away.
