The Republic of Panama is an awesome place to live and very easy for an American to assimilate. Since the USA was in control of the canal for so long, there are a lot of US type aspects. However, it's a totally different country, different language, etc., so it's kind of a nice in between.
They show American football, have shows in English, you can buy See's candy for god sakes...I don't know about the guns though!!! However, a lot of people have gas guzzlers.
Also, for parents, they have some very good schools here, a lot of them are bilingual or trilingual. Also, a full time maid (which would cook, clean, take care of kids) is $250 to $300/month for live in (probably even a little less).
You can get good, national Panama beer for 50 cents to 1 dollar, depending on where, etc.
Panama City is a def. "normal" city, with nice restaurants, clean movie theatres, etc.
Don't even get me started on the Colombian working girls!!!!
