Physically, when a person dies, their energy, i.e., all the biological processes which powered their organs and anotomy shuts down. That energy then transforms and dissipates into heat, sound, and other forms of energy. The body then decays and gets recycled into the earth, eventually becoming food for other organisms, atoms of which will eventually be used as the building blocks for other life or geological formations, such as rocks, trees, and plants.
I learned that in my first year of calculus based physics, general mechanics.
