As much as I hate stolen content and sites that give it all way, the real reason sales are in the toilet is the loss of customer confidence thanks to all the popular companies that hit them for multiple prechecked hidden cross sales (nevermind the ones that aren't even on the join page, or the 1-click emails that get sent out after).
Once someone gets nailed for $150 in charges for joining a $1 trial, they never join again.
