Taking the time to compliment someone because they got caught with their hand in the cookie jar and then decided to put the cookie back sounds pretty high schoolish . Kind of like when some kid continually compliments the cool clique at high school in the hopes that they'll let him hang out with them; in your case you're looking for more business.
