With these things, you can't change something so drastically that you lose your core base of fans. You have to continue the formula... improve on it, but continue it.
Sylvester Stallone did comedy movies that flopped. Because he was in a slump? Or because he completely changed the formula and his fans didn't agree?

They wouldn't have to completely change the formula to make the game more interesting or more innovative than it looks in the gameplay trailer.
New spells, a new class, and manipulating the environment doesn't really cut it. Hopefully they've left out some new features that they didnt mention or havent finished yet that will be in the actual game.
