it seems to me that 'British' traditions go back considerably further than a mere 2 or 3 generations. I don't understand why it seems difficult for some people to realize that a country's inhabitants would seek to preserve their cultural identity, especially when it's been developed over 1000's of years and is enshrined in everything from their architecture to their folklore to their traditional government and nearly every other aspect of their life.
whether another group comes marching in with weaponry first and then seeks to change things or slips in via lax immigration laws and then seeks to change things, their goal is the same - to forever alter the way of life of the existing inhabitants. if the inhabitants value their way of life then they'll take steps to deter events such as that from happening.
