now in all seriousness, have you heard of any of the following films which were huge success in the U.S. and most of the casts do not have American accents:
The English Patient
Four Weddings and a Funeral
Snatch
Amelie
Like Water for Chocolate
Tie Me Up, Tie Me Down
El Mariachi
Boys in the Hood
If you want, I can list every foreign film, or film with a non-American accent that was hit.
Quite frankly you're wrong. And, sorry, I never saw Mad Max dubbed into American. It was available in both. Have you been to France, Italy, Spain???? Foreieng movies are available dubbed or in the version originale. More often than not, foreign films in the U.S. are subtitled not dubbed.

Boyz 'n the Hood was an American film.
I guarantee you that none of those other films grossed over $50 million US. That is not a hit. Unless, of course, you are talking about it being a comparative "hit" i.e. a hit for a foreign film. Most Americans feel comfortable watching American films. That's the bottom line.
If you studied film then that makes you a film buff. You are unlike most American moviegoers. You obviously have an interest in film that goes beyong plonking down your $10 and simply expecting 2 hours of bland entertainment.
