Iraq is a huge waste of money too, but it doesn't justify pissing away tax dollars on space exploration. If a private company wants to explore space, then I think that's awesome. But enough people are already struggling to feed their families, their hard earned money shouldn't be pissed away on pet projects they have no control over.

Do you enjoy the convenience of cooking food fast in a microwave oven? Thank space. If we stuck to earth we wouldn't have satelited telling us hurricanes are head our way or tornadoes for that matter. We wouldn't have spy satellites. See satellites are in SPACE. So no cable or Directv for you. Just the same 5 lousy channels. Medical technology, thank space. And because it's the government not private business doing it, the government can't file patents on new technologies derived from space so ALL can benefit from it.
