Truth be told, I have NEVER caught anything in Thailand other than "Pink Eye" a few years ago and a few cases of nasty Asian flu. I have had drippy dick a few times in my life and it has ALWAYS been when I fucked with non-whores in the USA. Go figure.
The way I look at is, unless you are in a relationship and neither partner cheats (impossible to know), then every woman and man is just as liable to have an STD as anyone else. Hookers don't get STDs from thin air. They get it from guys, most of which have girlfriends or wives they are cheating on. That little fact is never considered when people do studies about STDs / HIV.

Eh, yeah. Sorry to tell you, but your reasoning's about as far off as possible.
Hookers tend to have sex with more men than other women. An average 25 year old hooker will have sex with more men in a single week than the average 25 year old woman has had sex with in her entire life.
It's a simple matter of statistics. The more people you have sex with, the bigger the chance that one of them has something. Compare it to throwing dice - getting double sixes on a single throw is not that likely. Getting double sixes at least once on a thousand throws is very likely.
And of course, apart from that, many prostitutes just use drugs, and catch HIV from sharing needles.
