Once again, Russia is not going to "invade" Georgia. Right now Russian army acts like a shield to protect Ossetian citizens from genocide but nothing else. You may believe or nor, but Russian army will not move on Tbilisi. They will stay on Georgian/Ossetian borders as long as it will need to get fire stopped. All firing emplacements will be suppressed.

    Here is just a quote:
Russian troops have entered Tskhinvali in a bid to stop further violence in the capital of Georgia's breakaway republic of South Ossetia. Georgian forces are continuing efforts to take control of the city. South Ossetia claims more than 1,400 people have been killed in fighting. Refugees are flooding into southern Russia as thousands flee the conflict zone.
    And another one:
"The situation reached the point that Georgian peacekeepers have been shooting at Russian peacekeepers. Now women, children and old people are dying in South Ossetia - most of them are citizens of the Russian Federation. According to the constitution, I, as the President of the Russian Federation, must protect lives and the dignity of Russian citizens wherever they are. Those responsible for the deaths of our citizens will be punished."

Georgian officials asserted that Russian warplanes had attacked Georgian forces and civilians in Tskhinvali, and that airports in four Georgian cities had been hit. Did you saw Georgian videos of their attack? They were used "Grad" systems, howitzers, tank guns, and bombers on a sleeping city. The Ossetins say there almost no buildings remained. There was a single hospital and even it was totally destroyed during the attack.

What do you think, how many people can be killed during such a military action?

P.S. Georgia has not warned Ossetia on starting a war. Furthermore, 2 hour before the attack, Georgian president told on TV that he is going for a peaceful negotiation "tomorrow". That sounded like: "Dear Ossetian people sleep well this night, nothing bad will happen". What a scoundrel!

                    yup!

Economic and Social Importance of the BTC Pipeline for Georgia
At every historical stage of its existence, any country has to solve a set of problems
related to its economic development, of which the primary and most important is
the choice of strategy. Following from this, tactical steps are determined. This
problem is an especially critical one for Georgia as the country is not enriched with substantial mineral resources2 and, therefore, this factor has no material influence
                    on the national economy.

In geo-economic terms, Georgia is situated along the quickest route linking Europe
with Asia, a fact that has naturally led to the emergence of the idea of reviving the
ancient Silk Road.4 Ultimately, this translated into projects like TRACECA
(Transport Corridor Europe Caucasus Asia) and INOGATE (Interstate Oil and
Gas Transport to Europe) both of which are of greatest importance not only for
Georgia?s economy, but also that for the entire Caucasus.5 It is exactly on these
projects that Georgia?s international economic function rests, and its economic
                    development depends.

The great energy potential of the Caspian basin7 requires its energy resources to be
transported by means of a ramified pipeline system,8 one branch of which will cross
Georgian territory.9 At present, Georgia has two sea terminals from which Caspian
oil is transported to the rest of the world. One is situated in Supsa, with a capacity
of 200,000 barrels/day (b/d), and another in the seaport of Batumi, with a capacity
of 200,000 b/d. However, their benefit (like that of the Russian port of
Novorossiysk, 680,000 b/d), and particularly their potential of expansion is limited
by the straits of the Bosporus.

                          Read this:

                          In Georgia, introduced martial law

                          then read this:

Georgian President proposed "immediately stop the fire" in the Tskhinvali region

                          What a miserable coward!

As I said above. It wasn't Russian aggression against Georgia. It was a military operation to protect South Ossetian civilians and force Georgia to stop fire. I also said that Russia will not go on Tbilisi. So there is the result.

                          2SBR Richard: Any more questions?

Georgian tanks and infantry, aided by Israeli military advisers, captured the capital of breakaway South Ossetia, Tskhinvali, early Friday, Aug. 8, bringing the Georgian-Russian conflict over the province to a military climax.

Russian prime minister Vladimir Putin threatened a ?military response.?

Former Soviet Georgia called up its military reserves after Russian warplanes bombed its new positions in the renegade province.

In Moscow?s first response to the fall of Tskhinvali, president Dimitry Medvedev ordered the Russian army to prepare for a national emergency after calling the UN Security Council into emergency session early Friday.

Reinforcements were rushed to the Russian ?peacekeeping force? present in the region to support the separatists.

Georgian tanks entered the capital after heavy overnight heavy aerial strikes, in which dozens of people were killed.

Lado Gurgenidze, Georgia's prime minister, said on Friday that Georgia will continue its military operation in South Ossetia until a "durable peace" is reached. "As soon as a durable peace takes hold we need to move forward with dialogue and peaceful negotiations."

DEBKAfile?s geopolitical experts note that on the surface level, the Russians are backing the separatists of S. Ossetia and neighboring Abkhazia as payback for the strengthening of American influence in tiny Georgia and its 4.5 million inhabitants. However, more immediately, the conflict has been sparked by the race for control over the pipelines carrying oil and gas out of the Caspian region.

The Russians may just bear with the pro-US Georgian president Mikhail Saakashvili?s ambition to bring his country into NATO. But they draw a heavy line against his plans and those of Western oil companies, including Israeli firms, to route the oil routes from Azerbaijan and the gas lines from Turkmenistan, which transit Georgia, through Turkey instead of hooking them up to Russian pipelines.

Saakashvili need only back away from this plan for Moscow to ditch the two provinces? revolt against Tbilisi. As long as he sticks to his guns, South Ossetia and Abkhazia will wage separatist wars.

DEBKAfile discloses Israel?s interest in the conflict from its exclusive military sources:

Jerusalem owns a strong interest in Caspian oil and gas pipelines reach the Turkish terminal port of Ceyhan, rather than the Russian network. Intense negotiations are afoot between Israel Turkey, Georgia, Turkmenistan and Azarbaijan for pipelines to reach Turkey and thence to Israel?s oil terminal at Ashkelon and on to its Red Sea port of Eilat. From there, supertankers can carry the gas and oil to the Far East through the Indian Ocean.

Aware of Moscow?s sensitivity on the oil question, Israel offered Russia a stake in the project but was rejected.

Last year, the Georgian president commissioned from private Israeli security firms several hundred military advisers, estimated at up to 1,000, to train the Georgian armed forces in commando, air, sea, armored and artillery combat tactics. They also offer instruction on military intelligence and security for the central regime. Tbilisi also purchased weapons, intelligence and electronic warfare systems from Israel.

These advisers were undoubtedly deeply involved in the Georgian army?s preparations to conquer the South Ossetian capital Friday.

In recent weeks, Moscow has repeatedly demanded that Jerusalem halt its military assistance to Georgia, finally threatening a crisis in bilateral relations. Israel responded by saying that the only assistance rendered Tbilisi was ?defensive.?

This has not gone down well in the Kremlin. Therefore, as the military crisis intensifies in South Ossetia, Moscow may be expected to punish Israel for its intervention.

What I find really disgusting is that Georgia launches an artillery offensive on Ossetian civilians killing hundreds and maybe thousands of them and all the newspapers are screaming "Russian Aggression." What about the Georgians who invaded South Ossetia (which has declared independence from Georgia and has been defacto independent for a long time)? It is an invasion by Georgia plain and simple. There is no other way to see it.

                                      why

Russia will look weak if only drive away Georgians...they should takte whole country, as example for other NATO puppet states.
One queston: Ordinary people in georgia, how much they supported their president before this? (percentage). Are there some people who are pro- Russian there?

No we shouldn't. We already had Georgia as a part in the USSR times. That region was absolutely useless. It was a subsidized republic. That means the whole country was working to feed it. So why the hell Russia will need it back? Who needs such a leech for the economy and a big enclave of crime? We already have enough problems with Georgian mafia in Moscow.

Interesting point of view from someone near, (I know for problems with Georgian mob), but it is only matter of time when American troops will be on georgian soil, which means that are closer to Russia. This can't be good. Just see what is going on everywhere where are NATO troops. Probably, people in USA and EU don't have real info, but really bad things approved by NATO forces.Do you think it is better to fight against mob and poor Georgian economy or NATO on their soil? Economy can be built much easier then enemy forces will be driven away. Russia need to clean garbage from it's own backyard until it is not too late.

They started an aggression against Russian peacekeepers (there are few killed). Medevedev told that Russia will not let anyone to kill its people. So Russian tanks and aviation just moved to South Ossetia to protect peacekeepers and civilians against brutal aggression.

It was a subsidized republic. That means the whole country was working to feed it. So why the hell Russia will need it back? Who needs such a leech for the economy and a big enclave of crime? We already have enough problems with Georgian mafia in Moscow.

They were used "Grad" systems, howitzers, tank guns, and bombers on a sleeping city. The Ossetins say there almost no buildings remained. There was a single hospital and even it was totally destroyed during the attack.

What do you think, how many people can be killed during such a military action?

Furthermore, 2 hour before the attack, Georgian president told on TV that he is going for a peaceful negotiation "tomorrow".
