Analogy isn't really proper..
Russia was not the one that attacked first. As far as I know, Georgia's army attacked South Ossetia and killed many Russian people, so Russia had to react in order
to stop ethnic cleaning in that territory.
Georgia like to enter NATO as soon as possible, and one of the terms they need to accomplish is fixing their internal issues.
With US donations help, they raised the army budget to more than a billion USD and as result, usage of power came up in S.Ossetia.
Totally different than US/Iraq thingie
