I guess it all depends on your priorities in life (and of course, those can and do change over time!). When I moved to Costa Rica for example, my goal was to open my own rock bar/venue. When I got the money to be able to do so, I instead opted for buying a house. I basically swapped priorities there, but looking back I'd never change all the experiences I've had through partying and travelling, to work more even if right now I'd have way more money. Same goes for spending a huge amount of what I make, I could never see myself investing in the longterm future - what if something happens to me and all that sacrifice never pays off (like injury, sickness, death, etc...)?
I think though as long as you are happy with your decisions, they were the right ones
