I really think he is in a key time in his life Phase 2 just before Phase 3 starts and his life begins to end.
If he fucks this up and doesn't set himself up for a comfortable Phase 3 he's going to be working until he is 80 and will never be able to travel/relax again..
Some people can do what the O.P wants to do and retire at 40 but that's because they made millions first :P
He's either going to have to bust his ass now and relax later or relax now and bust his ass later..
