You're out of your mind and so is anybody else discouraging this guy from doing what he wants to do. I did it at 27 and have never regretted it, not for one minute. If you all love the sit in traffic, stand in line, be quiet, know your place, get gouged on everything you buy, wait for the jackbooted thug cop to smack you around for whatever nitpicky bullshit this time and big brother watching your every move and word life that is living in the US today, enjoy. By the way, enjoy that depression and the coming world war too. If you treasure your illusions and are comfortable in your denial, have a blast.
Some of the rest of us are courageous enough to strike out, explore and see that the world DOESN'T revolve around the US and that there are NO dragons outside "the colonies". Just like those who went West, the sailors who got on ships going to nowhere and discovered new worlds and every other person brave enough to drop the status quo and think for themselves, there will always be sacrifices and fear of the uknown. But the rewards, the experiences and the wisdom of a life well lived are worth the change that some of you so desperately fear.
You know what you call somebody who speaks one language? American.
Panama is the fastest growing country and economy in Latin America, the #1 real estate market in this HEMISPHERE and one hell of a party country. There's every imaginable water sport in two oceans an hour away from one another with a strip of mountains down the middle that add all of those options too. It's 85 degrees every day, we've got the same rainy season that Florida does and there's no natural disasters here. The US, Central and South America and the Caribbean are a couple hours flight away. There's non-stop flights to Canada and Europe and there's commuter flights all over Panama, Costa Rica and COlombia. The cost of living is great and the quality of living makes up for the stupidity of the people. I haven't washed a dish or cleaned my house in 3 years. I barely touch the kitchen and if I want to go out to eat with 4 or 5 friends, I don't have to budget in advance like you do in a decent restaurant in the states.
There are tens of thousands of foreigners from every country in the world here because there's $140,000,000,000 (that's right, BILLION) in foreign investment pouring into this country and it's a wild west, entrepreneur's dream. Unlike the US, Canada, Europe or most of the rest of the world, here you can be a big fish in a little pond and the money is just as good as it would've been 100 years ago in the US. There's opportunities everywhere for somebody with a brain and the ability to innovate. The "good 'ol boys club" can be circumvented easily with a little brain power and some payoffs. The corruption here is the good kind that helps you, not the kind that keeps you poor and scraping in the US or the kind that shoots you and kidnaps you in Mexico or Brazil.
Did I mention the women? Forget all of that feminist, "Why are you looking at me?", "You don't drive a ferrari, so fuck you" nonsense. The women here are amazing. They're gorgeous, they fuck like animals and best of all, they're actually WOMEN. They enjoy being feminine and all of that idiocy that American guys have to put up with doesn't exist. The Colombianas, Venezuelans, Dominicans, Ticas, Chinese girls, Russians and yes, even Americans, Canadians, French girls, Dutch, German...on and on. They're all here for the same reasons you are and they're a blast to party with in this place that loves to party.
Stop thinking so small and THINK FOR YOURSELF!
I think what he's doing is great and I encourage him and anyone else who isn't tied to WalMart and Applebees for existence to consider it too. There's nothing more freeing, more gratifying and more amazing than to live out of a backpack.
The world's waiting and if you're here, you can most likely work on a laptop. WTF are you waiting for?
