On the second try with a different computer , the new Boilsoft ver. 5 actually was able to successfully split the standard (non h264) .mp4s that I had created in Cleaner XL. I think the success of Boilsoft to split them on one of my Windows XP pcs but not the other Win XP pc may be due to the different installations of Quicktime.

In any case there still isn't a Windows app that can successfully split any variety of Quicktime file and that is an ongoing issue for me.
