No need to be sorry. Better me dealing with this shit than someone else.
If your even slightly worried about it, again just ask for a topical anaesthetic. Takes just a few seconds to slightly numb the area. Only downside is that it is often room temp so it will feel cold then numb.
I have read plenty of stories online where I swear some people describe getting a splinter removed is the most painful thing ever or something along those lines.
