I Understand people who have little understanding of what this LHC is capable of or the scientific principles behind it being scared. It is ridiculous that almost all the news covering this are only covering the shit that COULD go wrong and creating a bunch of senseless fear mongering.
1. As far as seeking answers for what happened seconds after the big bang? Some people are saying this could destroy the planet or universe. Why won't it? For starters the Big Bang occured from a finite point of mass exploding into a vacuum of nothing. This wasn't just a few protons colliding with each other. Since our universe already has all the matter it will ever have it is impossible to create another finite point of mass of the same magnitude of the Big Bang without sucking up our entire universe to recreate the same result.
2. As far as creating Black Holes? They will be microscopic black holes, actually smaller, and the chances of them surviving less than a second after creation is very very slim. Why is that? Hawking Radiation. There will not be enough surrounding mass or energy for it to sustain itself and will simply fizzle out almost as quickly as it formed.
In short. The LHC will not destroy us or our planet. Just like the atomic bomb didn't when they first tested it and scientist were in fear that it would ignite the nitrogen in our atmosphere.

Your totally logical rationale is lost on the GFY crew...
What you should have said was "all this hype is spread by US news stations cos the US is just jealous they weren't the ones building this awesome all-answering particle cannon".
