Read Ended Today

So I am sitting there at the stop light today after watching the Colts destroy the Ravens (awesome stadium by the way) at a complete stop and all of a sudden I hear this huge "Kabamb" and I turn to the my daughter, who was in the front seat with me and I said "what the hell was that." Then almost immediately there was another "kabamb" as the dumbass hits me again or something (went pretty fast, might have imagined the second hit). I tapped the car in front of me as he pushed me forward into that car but they had no damage so they left.

I got his insurance info, ID, address and cell phone number so I am covered there but my back is kind of sore (about 3-4 inches below where my neck meets the top of my spine). No major pain but it feels like I have been driving 15 hours straight - we will see what is like in the morning I guess.

No major damage to my car which is amazing to me and no air bags were deployed by his or my car. I do have a ~4 inch crack in the lower plastic of my bumper and a few scratches around there.

I don't want to break any laws or anything but is is possible to just get the insurance money for fixing my car rather than have the money sent directly to a collision shop (me and my buddy can probably fix it)? Never been in an accident so not sure?
