Great advice...And, I think you hit the nail on the head when you said it doesn't happen overnight.

SEO is undoubtedly a medium to long term strategy, which can be frustrating, but hang in there! If you start ranking for your main keyword within the first couple months, then it's probably not that competitive So, keep focusing on adding keyword rich pages and getting some backlinks (google and yahoo groups, www.x-digg.com, www.x-tagged.com are good places to start).

Also, be sure to record how you rank now, what you implement, and then revisit how you rank in a month or so...It is important to record progress and to experiment so that you know what is working and what isn't.
