If you can make the same $$ with less traffic then that has to be good for you!
less traffic = less costs ( buying traffic , BW etc..)

You do bring up some valid points but I think it all comes down to your traffic source and what it's costing you.
If you are buying traffic (like ppc) then ratio's are VERY important because you need to watch your profit margin. The difference between 1/200 1/300 can mean the difference betwen profit and loss. You said "less traffic = less costs ( buying traffic , BW etc..)"
and I agree with you 100% if you are straignt up buying the traffic.
On the other hand if you have TONS of free sites listed everywhere

then ratio's aren't as important. If a site is getting 1,000 visitors a day you want to get as many surfers clicking your ads as possible. The outclick to the sponsor isn't costing you anything, just the bandwith of the sites themselves. So in this case you'll use lots of different techniques and tricks to get surfers clicking out to the sponsors. In this scenario is where my first example makes most sense. Here if you're overfiltering and getting super low ratio's it just means you're leaving tons of clicks behind. After all the amount of visitors to your site isn't changing so your cost isn't effected by outclicks. In fact your bandiwth bill is higher if they stick around your site too long clicking pics. So a very high ratio here just means your good and getting outclicks and if you can keep it profitable then 1/200 or 1/400 doesn't matter.
