They are Dynastes sp. larvae, commonly know as the Eastern Hercules Beetle. There are two species in this genera, tityus and granti, and they are among the largest North American Coleopterans(beetles).

I'm a lifelong entomologist, and actually had these three larvae overnighted to me from my friends yard in San Antonio. I'm very excited to see them develop, and since they larvae are all 4th and 5th instar (in their 4th and 5th stage of larval development (out of 5 stages)),I should expect pupation any time now.

%99.99 of insects aren't really gross at all, once you get a good look at them, and considering there are over 250,000 species of beetles alone, I liken collecting insects to engaging in a lifelong scavenger hunt with 750k+ items on the list.
I'm assuming the collection isn't all live I think that's awesome.some people collect boots and cigars, you collect bugs.probably worth a mint if you wanted to breed or sell them?
