I work hard for the luxuries I have in life - two jobs totaling 16 hrs/day. My wife works another 40 hour/week job despite being on chemotherapy for lupus and cortizone injections for degenerative rhumatoid arthritis. Some days she hurts so bad she can barely walk to the car to drive to work - but she does - year after year...without complaint.
We give to selective domestic charities throughout the year - ones that we know make constructive and worthwhile use of the money (Arthritis Foundation, Salvation Army, Easter Seals and local women's shelters).
I still remember the results of the LiveAid benefit in 1985 where $285 million was raised and a large percentage fell into the hands of NGOs and warlords and never even reached the citizens.
Tell me again why I should give up those luxuries to send money to a country that will NEVER elevate itself from being recipients of handouts, generation after generation.
