I've been amazed at the loyalty & pleasure I have seen in the people that have been using the iPhone since it hit the market. Apple seems to have developed more of a culture than just a customer base but will it be enough for them to hold off the the giant GOOGLE? I have been waiting to see what GOOGLE was going to come out with featuring their Android operating system but as a satisfied Verizon customer I was VERY disappointed when they made their choice of mobile carriers
"... the first phone to run on Google's Android operating system, the T-Mobile G1, hit stores last month."
The main drawback that I currently see is that GOOGLE has chosen T-Mobile as it's carrier which is one of the weakest in the market whereas APPLE partnered with the giant AT&T. The other problem is that many users must wait until their current 2 year contracts are up to make a change without incurring early cancellation fees.
"Tech writer Erick Schonfeld said that both phones mark a quantum leap forward for the mobile experience. The table stakes have just been raised. From now on, phones need to be nearly as capable as computers," he wrote for TechCrunch.com. "All others need not apply."
To that end, the battle between the two products may not come down to how well their casings are designed, but how well strong their operating systems are and how powerful their applications are.

WAIT! That's not all. Motorola has now jumped in the game and is working on the first Android Social Smart Phone...
"Motorola is betting $50 million on the popularity of social networking to carry its next marquee product: A mobile phone powered by Google?s Android operating system.
In the struggle for supremacy over the mobile markets, Google has an advantage over Apple. While Steve Jobs' empire has dispatched both its hardware and software teams on the mighty iPhone, Google has simply provided developers with the powerful new Android mobile OS.
T-Mobile built the first Android phone, and now Motorola has its sights set on the second quarter of 2009 for the release of the Android Social Smart Phone."
