Unless you tell me that you needed the spindles for performance (which I doubt, as your comments are pretty outlandish) there is no reason for raid 0. You should be using raid 1 or 1+0 for redundancy.

What other points of failure' are there once you eliminate the decision to use striping instead of mirroring, or a combination of both?

Yea, the investment of $250 on 2 1 TB disks is far too steep. Use raid 1.
