What he lacks in power he makes up with extraordinary endurance and speed. I don't care for his punches either but they pay dividends over several rounds. Jones suffered his first cut eye ever. Jones isnt' the fighter he used to be having dominated since 1988 but losing 4 of his 7 last fights, but Calzaghe would have given him a run even in his prime. I don't think there is a boxer in his weight class right now that can beat him.
I think the only way to defeat Calzaghe is to knock him out early. You need a calculated but relentless power puncher to accomplish that (like a middle weight Mike Tyson). The standard boxing style of throwing jabs and looking for spots doesn't work on Calzaghe. He is able to avoid most of those and answers with a flurry of combinations.
Most boxers play by his rules and lose because they can't match his stamina. His punches aren't powerful and only do damage over the long run so I'd try to knock him early. If you don't do that, you'll lose anyway.
