The reality is the some people became very very wealthy exploiting all these opportunities and now they are laughing as the government, the taxpayer and the economy go down the crapper.
GM and Ford had years to redo their lines, they chose not to do so. They focused on short term profits, after all every three months they need to feed gains to Wall Street.
We are now paying price for the worst parts of capitalism, greed and lack of concern for the future. There is no short term solution but in my opinion let them all fail. The banks, the lenders, the auto companies are all multinationals. If they fail other multinationals will fill the vacuum.
