The contests are just about keeping the thread on the damn front page. Call it the cost of advertising. Sadly though many people such as myself never venture into them since they are just "to the top, here it comes, bummmp" threads full of jackasses that are only contest post whores. I may visit a contest thread right when it is posted but typically once I realize it is such a thread I will never return to it.
Hell there are already contest rules in place that are getting broken and nobody gets kicked for it so who cares who wins the damn things anymore. Just let the companies who want to waste the money to keep a thread title (better be descriptive thread title or it is worthless) on the front page.
