A lot of good advice here. I usually tell noobs to Go Fuck Yourself, but in this case I'll take a moment to say what all of us know:
We are in a consumer marketing business. While we don't sell subscriptions to Time, People, and TV Guide, the same rules apply to us. Our business is recession proof maybe only a little. The businesses we depend upon to advertise with us and pay our commissions are going to suffer a decline in sales just like Wal Mart and other retailers. A decline in sales means a decline in advertising. It's the first thing people cut. A lot of marginal webmasters are going to be shaken out, and the rest of us are in for a tough year.
There are going to be a lot of distressed assets for sale, and the owners are going to pretty them and come to you with a deal if you encourage them, only a little.
Bottom line: hang on to your money until you are positive you know what you're doing.
