This is exactly what I'm working on as a side effect of another project which requires cameras to record every trip I make, although I'd be more into showing what idiots some people are. I've seen a fair few near misses, a couple of accidents, and of course a ton of generally dangerous driving. The software, when it's complete, will also log GPS derived data including position, direction and speed of travel. Might also stick a mic in the boot with the computer for some general road noise/ambience.
Now, if only FreeBSD's meteor/bktr driver actually worked as explained in the manual, I'd be on the road already!
