As I said when SS first came about it wasn't about helping the disabled. Should it be? maybe. The point is that if you are going to change the rules you need to change the system and it really hasn't been chaged to compensate for that. One exmaple is the age to collect benefits. It's gone up 2 years in the last 73 years even though life expectancy has gone up 16 years.

The fact is that people would be better off taking that 6.2% and buying a CD at the local bank that to give it to SS as far as what they'll get in retirement. Yeah people like my grandparents had it good because when they worked SS tax was only 1-2%. So in the end they got much more than they put in.
