CAN-SPAM is an American law & the people operating most of these programs are outside of the U.S. Sucks that they get to do it & we don't as American citizens. But that's how legislation like this works....it fucks over legit U.S. businesses & does nothing to stop the spam mail problem.
Also....e-mail marketing to your own canceled members database is a vital part of almost every major programs business model. So long as they have a remove link & contact information on every e-mail, i see nothing wrong with it.....AT ALL (so long as the advertisement does not include pornographic images or text as soon as you open it....like BAM in your face)
I believe that the best thing we as webmasters can do....is to not engage in these activities ourselves. (LEAD BY EXAMPLE INSTEAD OF COMPLAINING) I also think its important to not post about these issues, as it simply gives ideas to other up & coming programs looking to make a quick shady buck.
I would contact the program owners & billing companies/hosts....& leave it at that. Bringing these issues to GFY is counterproductive IMO
