When it comes to amateur I'd say just remove the zits if anything... for pro-am sites a bit of glam is good, but for full glamourization to work, you need studio photoshoots a la Dean Capture.
Also, every set is different, that's why actions rarely work. And when using the blur filter you must be careful to blur only the skin... mask away the features and the background, cuz otherwise it gives it away ;) It is also a myth that more saturation always works, sometimes less saturation works better... if you want some help hit me up
