Dude, go for it! If you're good with digital and have a nice monster rendering machine ... and have a cookie-cutter method, I say it's a done deal. Just be careful about all the caffeine ... and don't do anything harder.
I remember editing back in the TV news days (3/4" and betacam). We would budget a minute for every second of finished piece... so for a minute piece you could usually count on taking an hour. I was also a beta tester in the early Avid days and worked for Tektronix when we patented syncing video edit points with the text in a news script.
