It's a naturally competitive keyword, though. That is to say, something that is used in natural language fairly often. When you do well for those without specifically targeting them, it usually means you do fairly well for a broad range of related phrases.

Yeah, I hadn't looked at those yet. It seems the phrase actually was targeted specifically, which voids my point about the value.
And indeed, those backlinks would lead to banning sooner or later - though it seems most of the pages they were on have now disappeared.
